DuMol Single Vineyard Selections for 2011 ~ “One of the superstar sources” RP

Christopher’s Wine Country Connection

~ Robert Parker, when discussing the otherworldly, simply majestic Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from DuMol said it best:

~ “This is one of the superstar sources of tremendous Chardonnay and Pinot Noir…. Proprietor Kerry Murphy and his brilliant winemaker, Andy Smith, are huge fans of Burgundy and have searched out some of the coolest climate regions of the Russian River and Sonoma Coast to produce these wines, which all show impressive aging potential….DuMol continues to be one of the most reliable names in winedom for high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.” ~ Robert Parker, Wine Advocate

~NOTE: The 2011’s are tightly allocated…Orders will be taken 1st come 1st serve… 3 bottles of each would make the perfect 15 pack!

2011 DuMOL Chloe Chardonnay Dumol CHLOE
Retails at:  $68.00/btl
Your Price: $63.99/btl
From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate:”A big, broad-shouldered wine, the 2011 Chardonnay Chloe Ritchie Vineyard stands out for its pure structure, volume and richness, all buttressed by beams of acidity. The 2011 is all about balance and richness, but without excess heaviness. This is going to be another fascinating wine to follow. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2023.”
(93) Points

2011 DuMOL Clare Chardonnay Dumol Clare Chardonnay
Retails at:  $68.00/btl
Your Price: $63.99/btl
From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate: “DuMol’s 2011 Chardonnay Clare Hyde Vineyard is a classic expression of Carneros. Warm, rich and resonant (for the year), the 2011 saturates the palate with the essence of orange peel, mint, spices and a hint of French oak. The 2011 is laced with endless intensity of flavor and great overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2023.”

2011 DuMOL Ryan Pinot NoirDumol Ryan Pinot 2
Retails at:   $95.00/btl
Your Price: $89.99/btl
From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate:The 2011 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard stands out for its deep, implosive personality. Juicy dark cherries, incense, hard candy and spices all flesh out in this large-scaled, voluptuous Pinot. This is a surprisingly structured powerful wine with a seemingly bright, bright future. Today, the smokiness from the medium-toast Remond barrels is a bit noticeable, but if that element subsides over time, I expect the 2011 Ryan will come at the high end of my rating. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2023.” (92) WA

2011 DuMOL Estate Pinot NoirDumol Estate Pinot
Retails at:  $100/btl
Your Price: $94.99/btl
From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate:The flagship 2011 Pinot Noir Estate DuMol Estate is all about balance and harmony. Nothing in particular stands out, just the wine’s stunning balance and proportion. Deep, rich and voluptuous yet backed up by serious tannins, the 2011 is an infant today. It will be great fun to see where this goes. Today, the Dumol Estate is pure sexiness in the glass! Amazingly, these vines are just seven years old. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2026.”  (95) Points

2011 DuMOL Eddies Patch SYRAH Dumol Eddies Patch
Retails at:  $95.00/btl
Your Price: $89.99/btl
Wine Advocate Review on the 2010 Eddie’s Patch:DuMol’s 2010 Syrah Eddie’s Patch Hoppe-Kelly Vineyard is beautifully centered. Savory herbs, licorice, graphite, menthol and blackberries all jump from the glass. Vibrant and totally alive, the 2010 stands out for its focus and sheer verve. Another year or two in bottle should only help the 2010 show even better. Layers of fruit build to the explosive, intense finish. Simply put, this is dazzling juice. Wow! Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.”

2011 ARIETTA “Quartet”
Proprietary Red, Napa Valley
62% cabernet, 19% cabernet franc, 17% merlot & 2% petit verdot

At a tiny fraction of the price that you would see a bottle of Screaming Eagle or Harlan Estate going for in the marketplace, Arietta’s “Quartet” packs in more bang for your buck in this price range than seemingly possible.   An expertly crafted blend by accomplished winemaker Andy Erickson

During Andy’s five year tenure making Screaming Eagle, he expertly crafted two 100 point perfect wines, the 2007 & 2010.   Andy was also the former assistant winemaker at Harlan Estate, is currently involved in his own label Favia, and is also winemaker at cult producers Dalla Valle, Dancing Hares and Ovid…  If you still aren’t quite convinced, Stephen Tanzer who is well known for being one of the toughest critics in the business raved about the 2011 Quartet and awarded it 92-94 points.   I strongly recommend securing a 15 bottle case of this magnificent red for your cellar….

Valentin Bianchi “Enzo Bianchi” 2009 ~ An Argentinean Grand Cru & Editor’s Choice

Christopher’s Wine Country Connection

Valentin Bianchi 2009 “Enzo Bianchi”Enzo_New_Bottle_2
Editor’s Choice ~ Wine Enthusiast Magazine

~ The 2009 version of the Enzo Bianchi – a micro production of only 125 cases – received the Editor’s Choice Award from Wine Enthusiast Magazine, where they reported:
“This inky San Rafael red features power, heat, blackberry and cassis on the nose. In the mouth, it’s full and balanced in feel, with black fruit, baked plum and toast flavors. A clean, almost stony feeling finish suggests minerality. Drink through 2018.”
92 points, Editor’s Choice – Wine Enthusiast

2009 Valentin Bianchi “Enzo Bianchi”
San Rafael – Argentina
MSRP: $59.99
Your Price: $39

WCC Notes: “The 2009 Enzo Bianchi is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, and 7% Malbec, aged for 14 months in new French oak. Deep, dark inky/purple in color, the wine offers up an extraordinary bouquet of blackberry, black currant, cigar box, Asian spices, black cherries, chocolate and plum. This full-bodied wine is rich and round with a plush velvety texture, seductive personality and a long, captivating finish. It reveals deep, intense flavors, layered complexity, and precision balance.”

Valentin Bianchi – San Rafael

~ With its roots dating to 1910, the estate of Valentin Bianchi is among the oldest wineries in Argentina. Its founder, Don Valentin Bianchi landed in Argentina from Italy and after nearly 20 years would finally realize his vinous dreams of establishing his family’s winery.

~ By 1934, Bianchi acquired critical acclaim by winning the then coveted “Maximum Quality Prize” at the Official Wine Exhibit in Mendoza. The quality equivalent of Grand Cru status, this moniker continues to adorn Bianchi’s greatest selection – the Enzo Bianchi – even today.

~ The winery’s most prized vineyard – source of the “Enzo Bianchi” bottling – is planted specifically in Finca Asti (located in Las Paredes) in San Rafael, Mendoza. The aspect which makes this site so particular is its elevation. Located at 2,400 feet above sea level, this breathtaking vineyard allows for precise growing conditions which benefit the various varietals that are blended to complete Bianchi’s Grand Cru, the “Enzo Bianchi”.

~ One taste and you’ll understand why Don Valentin was so dedicated to the site; and why so many wine lovers to this day continue to be thrilled with the results!

Seductive, sophisticated & complex – If this wine could dance it would Tango!  This luscious, full bodied wine combines the intensity of mountain Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of cool climate Syrah fruit grown on Mount Veeder. Deep dense purple color with alluring aromas of dark berry fruit, fleshy plum, black cherry fruit hosted with slight mocha overtones follow through to the palate in this complex and layered wine.  The sensuous entry melts into a rich velvety core of dark fruit with a balanced and structured mid-palate displaying blackberry, ripe wild berry currants, cedar  and a hint of vanilla..

2008 Spotted Owl Vineyards
Mountain Cuvee, Mt. Veeder

It’s discoveries like this that make the job both exciting and rewarding.  This rare, 2008 Cuvee from the renowned Mt. Veeder AVA in Napa Valley was expertly crafted by one of our favorite winemakers, Rolando Herrera.  Rolando spent 10 years at Stags’ Leap Wine Cellars, working under legendary winemaker Warren Winiarski .  He later took a position as the assistant winemaker at Ch. Potelle, and also as the winemaker at Vine Cliff Winery before becoming director of winemaking at Paul Hobbs Consulting.

Our tasting panel was struck by the beauty of this wine.  It outperformed Napa Cabs at 2-3 times the price at our tasting…  With the limited availability of this incredibly rare Cabernet Blend, orders will be taken on a first come first serve basis.

Walter Hansel “Cahill Lane” Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2010 ~ One of THIS Country’s Most Prominent!

Christopher’s Wine Country Connection

Walter Hansel “Cahill Lane” Hansell
Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2010
93 points, “Striking”
Wine Advocate

~ For as long as I have been following California Chardonnay (more than a decade), Walter Hansel Winery has been counted among the top half dozen when considering this country’s best producers of extremely high quality, consistently noteworthy bottlers of that varietal. When it comes to Chardonnay from America, few do it as well – as consistently – as Walter Hansel Winery.

~ Robert Parker echoed that sentiment when he reported: “For a winery founded only in 1996 (situated down the road from Dehlinger and Kistler), this estate is on fire, producing Burgundian-styled offerings that are the products of natural yeast fermentations, gentle handling in the cellars, with the Pinot Noirs kept on their lees, and no fining or filtration at bottling. If readers have not yet tasted the wines of Walter Hansel, they are missing some stunning wines.”

Walter Hansel “Cahill Lane” Chardonnay 2010

MSRP: $50
Your price: $39

~Walter Hansel Winery ~

From that inaugural review of Walter Hansel Winery’s Chardonnays, these single vineyard designated treasures have been increasingly difficult to acquire. Today, while my allocation remains, I offer you a shot at what the Wine Advocate dubbed “Striking”.

“One of the more overt wines in the lineup, the 2010 Chardonnay Cahill Lane blossoms from the glass with tropical fruit, honey, smoke, licorice and incense. Exotic in its aromas and flavors and oily in texture, the Cahill Lane captures a striking balance of depth and richness but without any excess heaviness. The personality of these Wente clones comes through loud and clear. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015.”

Aurielle Napa Valley Cabernet 2008 ~ A Howell Mountain Superstar You need to know

Christopher’s Wine Country Connection

2008 Aurielle Napa Valley, Cabernet SauvignonAurielle

~ The April 2012 issue of Connoisseurs’ Guide to California Wine – wherein they reviewed 118 Domestic Cabernets to include Caymus Special Selection, Shafer Hillside Select, Stag’s Leap Fay and many other of the “big boys” – awarded its highest score to none other than AURIELLE Cabernet Sauvignon; bestowing a whopping 94 points (placing this beauty ahead of some very serious competition).

~ “Rich and complex, deep and boasting plenty of still youthful yet outgoing curranty fruit, this wine is about as close to classic as a wine of its size and expressiveness is likely to get…wonderfully complementary oak in its makeup …it is also a wine of great sophistication. … the wine’s depth is matched to its underlying sense of balance…”
94 points, #1 Cabernet,
Volume 36, Issue 6: April 2012

MSRP:  $90.00/btl

Your Price: $65.00/btl (That’s Nearly 30% OFF) + Ground Shipping Included on Case Purchases

Aurielle

Aurielle produces Super Premium Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards on Howell Mtn and Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. This powerful Cabernet will have you on the edge of your seat, and the silky, fine grain tannins really extend the finish and will have you begging for another sip.

The wine is produced from extremely low yields of less than 2 tons per acre. This results in powerful, intense berries that make a truly memorable and very classy Cabernet Sauvignon.  Just 358 cases were produced of this ultra-premium Cab. I strongly recommend adding a 15 bottle case to your cellar.

WCC Notes: “The 2012 Morgan Twelve Clones showcases powerful aromas of fresh cherry, plum, dark chocolate and cola. On the palate the wine is well-concentrated, with deep broadening flavors of black cherry, vibrant wild berry, sweet red fruits, black tea and vanilla. The wine is rich and deep, with superb balance and a long, luscious finish.

2012 MORGAN “Twelve Clones” Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands

Morgan Vineyards is located in the heart of the Santa Lucia Highlands, in an area of hillside vineyards that some consider to be the “Cote d’Or” of California. Their neighbors include Sleepy Hollow, Mer Soleil, Rosella’s and Garys’ Vineyards.

The new Morgan “Twelve Clones” Pinot Noir comes from the finest vineyards of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation, including Morgan’s own organically farmed “Double L” estate, which accounted for 63% of the final blend. (The “Double L” Pinot sells for upwards of $50)…

It was no surprise that the Wine Spectator has awarded major kudos to Morgan’s “Twelve Clones” Pinot Noir in the past.  At under $25/btl the Morgan “Twelve Clones” Pinot Noir is without a doubt one of the finest Pinot Noir values on the planet. If you are searching for a seriously high quality Pinot Noir at a great price, look no further than the new Morgan Twelve Clones.
